Blue Box Season 2 brings snowy romance and a new aiko opening theme
The second season gets a new main PV, two theme songs and a 4 October premiere on Netflix and Japanese television.
The second season of Blue Box has a new main promotional video, a new visual and an opening theme from aiko — and the romance is about to get considerably more complicated.
Season 2 premieres on 4 October 2026, with Netflix confirming the same date for its international release.
Aiko is opening the season
Singer-songwriter aiko performs the new opening theme, Anata no Hana no Iro. The song was written specifically for the season and receives its first preview in the main PV.
Elsewhere Kikou performs the ending theme, blue in, with the song released through Toy’s Factory.
The new music gives the season a strong emotional signal before the plot has even started. The trailer is full of winter scenery, quiet looks and characters standing just close enough to make everyone watching wonder why they are still pretending this is only about badminton.
Winter is coming to the romance
The main visual shows Chinatsu Kano resting in the snow and looking upwards, while the trailer repeatedly returns to a winter setting.
That marks a shift from the summer tournament material that closed out the first season. The sports story is still central, but Season 2 appears to be placing more weight on the relationships surrounding Taiki Inomata and Chinatsu.
Blue Box follows Taiki, a badminton player chasing a place at the national championships, and Chinatsu, the basketball player he has fallen for. An unexpected change in their living arrangements brings them closer together, creating the sort of emotional pressure that makes ordinary household conversations feel more dangerous than a championship match.
The new PV also gives more screen time to Yumeka Kido, who is voiced by Yoshino Aoyama. Her appearance adds another complication to a story already balancing competition, friendship and feelings that nobody seems particularly good at discussing.
When does Blue Box Season 2 air?
The official website confirms that Season 2 begins on Sunday, 4 October 2026, at 4:30 p.m. in Japan across the TBS network.
The broadcast will run across 28 stations nationwide. Netflix has also confirmed 4 October as the international release date, describing the season as a Netflix exclusive.
The production team remains led by director Daisuke Sakou, with Yuko Kakihara handling series composition and scripts. Miho Tanino returns for character design and chief animation direction, while Takashi Ohmama provides the music. Electric Circus is handling animation production.
The season adapts the manga by Kouji Miura, which began in Weekly Shonen Jump. The official site has not yet confirmed the episode count or how far Season 2 will progress through the manga.
Our opinion
The new trailer suggests Blue Box is keeping the balance that made the first season work. The sport gives Taiki and Chinatsu clear goals, but the romance is where the real tension lives — particularly when both characters are better at chasing a ball than explaining how they feel.
The winter setting also looks like a smart change of mood. Snow, shorter days and the sense that the characters are moving into a new stage of their lives give Season 2 a more reflective atmosphere without abandoning the series’ gentle charm.
Aiko’s opening theme is another strong choice. Blue Box needs music that can sell both the rush of competition and the awkwardness of teenage feelings, and Anata no Hana no Iro already sounds like it understands the assignment.
